The Network
The Network
Despite being a prose based game, residents of Heavenly Hills do have the ability to communicate via network posts, though not in the way you might expect if you are used to network based games in other journal communities. You don't have a nifty phone or tablet that you can take with you because technology in Heavenly Hills just isn't that advanced. Those chunky looking television sets that you see in the living rooms in suburbia, or hanging from brackets in the mattress store? Yep. That's the network. For those who have some experience with Network Posting, it does function in more or less the same way, though we strongly suggest you read through the FAQ below to learn some of the key differences.

You're joking right? Surely you're going to let us have tablets so we can talk to each other all the time:

No, no. Quite serious. The emphasis of this game is prose. Networks can be useful tools for bringing characters together but should not be seen as the main method of driving interaction.

So why have a network at all?:

How else will your host keep you informed of upcoming events? One of the main purposes of the network is to provide a way for the powers that be to communicate with you. There will also be times when characters will want to send out a mass communication without having to do a letter drop. It's a not very convenient method of interacting with your fellow residents.

So does that mean no accidental network posts?:

Far from! You won't be accidentally turning it on, but the network is run by The Board. At any point in time they have the ability to flick a switch and the intensely private and personal conversation that you're having with that person from your past has just been beamed into the living room of every house in Heavenly Hills.

Can I talk privately to people on the network?

You can talk privately to houses on the network. Each television set has a metal plate with a number on the back. You send communication to them by merely changing the channels on your TV, much like dialling in the combination to an old safe.

Where do I find these TV sets?:

Every home has a television set in the living room. Most Businesses throughout Heavenly Hills will have a television set, unless otherwise stated in the location breakdown.

What if I want to take my Television Set with me?

Let's just say you do happen to find a trolley to put your tv onto so you can wheel it around, because let's face facts, it's going to be too heavy for you to carry with you, you still need a power source to communicate with the network.

Ha! Then I'll just unplug my TV at home and screw the powers that be!

Sure. Give it a shot. The television will be plugged back in next time you return to the living room.

Fine, then I'll move it!:

Then it will be moved back. The Board is not opposed to having to bolt your sets to the floor, which will make rearranging your living room a veritable nightmare.

Then I'll just smash the darn thing!

Really now? Do we need to give you an attitude adjustment? Vandalism of any kind is not condoned by The Board and penalties will apply to those who have repeated infractions.

Fine. Well how do I broadcast to the whole Network then?

You simply change to channel one and your broadcast will appear on every television throughout Heavenly Hills.

Ohhh, can I use the network to spy on people.

Aren't you a devious one? Theoretically yes? That said you would need to know the number of the television set you wish to direct dial and they will be able to see your face on their screen when you do it so there may be a slight glitch in your plan, but you can certainly try.

Can I block people from conencting to my television?.

Why would you want to do that? Oh you mean because of that psychotic stalker you seemed to have picked up. Sorry, can't help you there. You might want to rethink wandering naked through the living room. You never know who could be watching
